Abstract
The present study examines the influence of political campaign strategies on voter turnout in Tumkur District. Election campaigns have undergone substantial transformation with the integration of traditional grassroots practices, mass media, digital communication, data-driven approaches, and interpersonal voter engagement. Against this background, the study seeks to identify the effectiveness of specific and other political campaign strategies and assess their influence on voter turnout. The study adopts a descriptive and analytical research design and is based on both primary and secondary data. Primary data were collected through a structured questionnaire and personal interviews from 410 elected political representatives associated with different levels of governance in Tumkur District. The questionnaire measured respondents’ perceptions of various direct and indirect campaign strategies using a five-point Likert scale. Linear regression analysis was employed to examine the influence of campaign strategies on voter turnout. The findings reveal that specific political campaign strategies have a significant influence on voter turnout, with R = 0.923 and R² = 0.852, indicating that 85.2% of the variation in voter turnout is explained by the model. Voter Value Proposition and Personal Voter Outreach emerged as important positive predictors. Similarly, other political campaign strategies demonstrated strong explanatory power, with R = 0.970 and R² = 0.941. Political Endorsements, Opinion Leader Influence, and Community and Grassroots Networking were significant positive contributors. The study concludes that an integrated combination of voter-centred communication, personal outreach, ethical conduct, grassroots networking, credible endorsements, and appropriate digital communication can strengthen voter engagement and turnout. The findings provide useful implications for developing more systematic and context-specific political campaign strategies in Tumkur District.
